The hate mail I get about Blake Lively

It's mainly from other women.

On Monday, the hate comments started rolling in on Instagram. I am so used to this that I react instinctively. Screenshot. Delete. Block. Restrict comments. When I made it so that only people who followed me could leave them, the haters left comments elsewhere: On the page of a survivor justice organization I recently collaborated with. On my best friend’s posts. On the picture of my fiancée proposing to me.

From what I could tell, most of the people leaving hate comments were other women.

The comments, DMs, and emails had women’s names like “Jessica” and “Sue.” Some of their profile pictures were of women embracing their sons. Some of them told me they were women, as if I would be surprised. As if women can’t hate other women.

Each of the comments was about my coverage of the hate campaign against actress Blake Lively. Here’s what they had to say:
